Tanis Half-Elven
Tanis is the leader of the companions. He isn't the perfect leader--he doesn't always do "the right thing." He usually ends up making his decisions with his heart instead of with his head. He has deep friendships with all of the companions, especially Flint. Tanis was the product of a violent encounter between an elven woman and a human rapist. He was an unhappy youth who was disliked by most of the elven community simply because he was different. He fell in love with the elfmaid Laurana,and later left Qualinesti to go to Solace after meeting Flint. There he met the companions. He fell in love with Caramon and Raistlin's half-sister Kitiara. He was torn between his love for Laurana and Kitiara, which served as a constant reminder of his divided heritage. He later led the companions in the War of the Lance and played a key role in eliminating the Dark Queen's most powerful servant--the Dragon Highlord Ariakas. Later still, Tanis helped to fight the Chaos War. Sadly, he was killed by a barbarian in a battle at the High Clerist's Tower.
Laurana
Laurana, daughter of the Speaker of the Suns in Qualinesti, is a very determined person who is used to getting what she wants. She fell in love with Tanis at an early age, much to the dismay of her father and her brother Gilthanas. When Tanis returned to Qualinesti years later during the War of the Lance, Laurana followed him and his companions--against her father's will--to the fortress of Xak Tsaroth to fight the Dragon Highlord Verminaard. She was forced to grow up very quickly during this time. Later, she became a general at the High Clerist's Tower and became a hero when she led the Knights of Solamnia against the forces of evil. Laurana became known as the Golden General. She married Tanis after the War of the Lance had ended. Together they had a son, Gilthas.
