Mini-Guide to
Krynn: This is the world where the Dragonlance stories take place. This is a world where anything can happen and magic exists. It has three moons. It is mostly populated by Elves, Dwarves, Kender, and humans. It is the creation of the Gods, and forged by Reorx. This is the history of Krynn. NOTE: I did not write this, but took it from a text document! If somebody has a Copyright problem and wants me to remove it, I will!
Out of the chaos, there was thought and being; there was the High God. With celestial hands, the High God drew the plans for a new realm, a new beginning. These plans were written in a book called the Tobril, a book that makes gods of mortal folk. The Gods are Called. Into the Beyond, the High God called. There came an answer from two beings: one of light, and one of darkness. They were lesser gods, seeking greatness in the chaos. The king and queen of wyrms, they were. They abandoned their twining struggles against each other and worked together to create a new place for them, a place for greatness. Gilean is Drawn Forth. Out of chaos and out of time, the High God summoned a third god. He was Gilean, greatest of sages. Gilean alone, in all of time, was worthy to bear the High God's plans for the universe. He received the plans, the Tobril. Then, the High God departed, for the planning was done and the creation was about to begin.
Together the three gods summoned helpers. Other, lesser gods came. The greatest of these was Reorx. "Give of yourself," he said, "and I will tame the chaos." And from the gods, Reorx forged a mighty hammer. With the hammer, he smote the chaos and it slowed. Sparks flew from the hammer and lighted the heavens. And there were stars.
Reorx shaped a mighty globe and separated the lands and seas, the light and dark, the heavens and the soil. Then, the other gods gifted the world, each to his or her own. Krynn was blessed with plants and trees, creatures of the earth, water and air, seasons and weather, and untold beauty.
And so later, the peoples of the land were formed. The people of the land were three. Stony ogres there were, cold and beauitiful, strong but hollow. Wooden elves rose like living trees, tall and regal, graceful, solitary, and proud. And, least of all, were creatures of clay -- humans, short and common, simple and bestial. The humans had the capacity to destroy, and to love. These were the children of the world.

DRAGONS: Dragons were the creation of Paladine, he formed them after the base metals on Krynn: iron, copper, lead, nickel and tin. And he gave Krynn, to them so they should rule. This was a mighty age of dragons. Paladine created a race of lizard men to worship the gods, and teach the dragons about the gods. These were called the bakali.
Meanwhile, the Dark Queen Takhissis, desperatly wanted the dragons for her own, and a boil grew on her heart which grew into the ugly god, Morgion. He told the dragons that Paladine was going to betray them, and enslave them. All the dragons except, for the copper, believed him and turned away from Paladine, but soon the nickel dragon seduced the copper to come with them. Morgion corrupted the dragons and twisted, and deformed the metals of which they were made. Iron became rust red, hot with anger. Copper became blue as the cracking storm. Nickel turned green, venomous like the snake. Lead turned black, stained and marked with its tongue of acid. And tin turned white, the brittle bite of frost. The Dark Queen's wicked laughter echoed in the heavens.
Seeing Paladine's grief, Reorx, and Mishakel helped create five new dragons, ones of gold, silver, bronze, brass, and copper for who would have been saved except for his traitorous sister. And when Paladine saw the dragons, his heart burned with love for Mishakel, and Reorx dipped his hammer into the heat of his heart and struck the dragons, and they came to life, and so the dragons of good were born of love. After this the gods had a war, which caused many new gods to appear, and Krynn to be almost destroyed.
Over the history of Krynn there have been four dragon wars. The first one was when the elves arrived on Krynn they found the immortal evil dragons living in the mountains. The elves were long lived but couldn't stand up to the dragons. Three sorcerers, wearin white, red and black (they were actually the gods of magic, solinari, lunitari, and nuitari) created orbs, which could absorb the essence of the dragons, and these orbs would also attract the dragons. The three brothers turned the bodies of the dragons into stone, and dropped the stones, into a botomless pit. The three gods of magic, were banished from Krynn, for this action.
The second dragon war occured like this: It was a time of rebirth on Krynn. The kender nation of Balifor was settled, by the hero Balif, peace was everywhere, and then the KalThax dwarves had moved into Thorbardin area and started mining their new city. In the mountain they found five huge stones with magical powers. They unearthed the stones, not wanting magic to corrupt their new kingdom. When the stones were out in the open, Takhissis, undid the spell on her dragon children, and they were set free. The Dark Queen, called forth the remaining bakali, and other evil creatures which served under her, and tried to take over Ansalon. The dragons laid a relentless siege on the nation of Silvanesti, in which many brave elves persished. Some scions arrived on the continent, and taught the art of wild magic (the magic of the sk and the earth) to the people. Three elves, novices in magic, grew powerful with this new arcane power, and rose to the tower of the sun, and called upon the elements to destroy the dragons, and other followers of Takhissis. Unfortunatly, hundreds of thousands, of innocent, human, elf and kender died in the chaos.
The Third Dragon War, is when the dark queen tried to come entirely into Krynn, so she could try to take over again. Her dragons were laying siege on Solamnia, when the Solamnic knight Huma (later known as Huma DragonBane) with the help of Paladine, discovered the DragonLances. He rallied the scattered knights, and brought the good dragons to fight with them. Riding the dragons, Huma, using the DragonLance destroyed several evil dragons, and banished the darkqueen and the evil dragons to the Abyss. Huma died, but his story was told for a long time as a brave dragonslayer; the perfect knight. To keep the balance, between good and evil, the good dragons were forced to leave to, and there was about a thousand years without dragons on Krynn.
The Fourth Dragon War happened in the fourth age. When the blood of an innocent was spilled by another innocent (when Berem the Green Gemstone Man killed his sister accidently) on an ancient temple of Takhissis, her temple rose again, along with the return of the evil dragons. The agents of Takhissis, had stolen the hidden eggs of the good dragons, and using dark magic perverted them into Draconions, which were dragon-like humanoids. And then the rest is very well known history. A group of unlikely heroes, came together with the power of love, and rediscovered the DragonLance. With the help of TASSLEHOFF BURRFOOT two dragonorbs were found, and this resulted in the dragon trap at the Clerists Tower. The elven princess LAURANA, or LAURALANTHALASA united the corrupted knights to stand against the dragons. The dark queen was banished when the green gemstone man killed himself on the pillar with his sister's blood. Although this time the dragons remained in Krynn.
During the Chaos war, dragons of good and evil flew against Chaos, to try and save the world in which they live in. They flew side by side, carrying knights of both good and evil, and they died side by side. But, they provide the destraction TASSLEHOFF BURRFOOT, kender hero, needed to plunge Rabbit Slayer into Chaos and... well that's another story.
HUMANS: Humans are the most plentiful race on Krynn, and they cover almost the entire continent of Anansalon. Humans do not have one characteristic, they can be short, or tall, fat, or thin, good, or evil, greedy, or humble. They are the most short-lived race on Krynn, and other races consider them hectic. They were the final creation of the gods. When they first arrived on Krynn, they did not know where to live, because all the territories were taken up. They moved into the plains, and were promptly enslaved by Ogres. They served under the Ogres for many years, until they won their freedom, and started colonies of their own. There are Barbarians, which still lead their lives on the basis of hunting, and gathering. They live in the plains, in the Icewall, and also by the sea. Barbarians is the name bestowed on them, by the other humans in Krynn, who consider themselves more civilized. There are the black-skinned Ergothians, whose main aim, is fishing, and exploring the other continents of Krynn. And then there are the Solamnics. They live with rules of royalty, and go about their lives filled with manners, and rules of all sorts. They make up the knights of Solamnia, which is the main protection on Ananasalon. They say that their honor is their life, and prefer to die, than to be dishonered. They have a set of rules 23 books long.
ELVES: Elves are slightly shorter, than humans, and have a smaller stature. They have tilted eyes, fine skin, and pointy-ears, which is their most distinct feature. Elves, were the creation of Paladine, so almost all Elves follow goodness. Any Elves who do not are banished, and called Dark Elves. When the Gods first created Krynn, the elves were scattered across Anansalon, like stars in the sky. A great Elven hero, Silvanos along with his kender friend Balif, saw the suffering they had and created a united elven nation called Silvanesti. Later Kith-Kanan, a Wildrunner elf, started trading with humans, and this resulted in some mixed marriages. When the Silvanesti, saw this they got angry, and Kith-Kanan seperated, and created the great elven nation of Qualinesti. The Kagonesti are looked down upon, by the other elves, because they live like human barbarians in the forest. All elven nations live in the forest except for the Dargonesti, who live under water. They have the ability to transform into dolphins. Currently, the Dargonesti live in the ruins of the city of Istar in the blood sea.
DWARVES: Dwarves are stout, short, and well-built, and their faces are usually covered with grand beards. (even Dwarven women have chin-whiskers!) Dwarves originally started our as working underground. They were created by the grey-gem, when some gnomes tried to steal it. The gnomes which were greedy turned into Dwarves. Thus, dwarves still remain greedy. They are all extremely skilled fighters, and Krynn's most gifted, sculpters and builders. (not to mention ale brewers!) There are three basic groups of Dwarves: Hill Dwarves, Mountain Dwarves, and Gully Dwarves.(although any Dwarf, will strongly argue that Gully Dwarves are Dwarves at all. The Hill Dwarves are compromised of the Neider and Klar clans and they live in the hilly forest in the Thorbardin area. They have dark-brown leathery skin from being in the sun for so long. The mountain dwarves live in the underground fortress of Thorbardin, where they have a huge city where hundreds of thousands of dwarves live. They see better in the dark, than their hill cousins. And then their are the Gully Dwarves, or the clan of Aghar, who are dirty, dumb, stupid and stinky, and live in dumps, hunt rats, and eat garbage. Few Gully's know how to count past two, and the smartest gully-dwarf (the High Bulp Phudge III) could count up to 4. What seperated the Dwarves was the Dwarf-Gate wars, in which the Hill Dwarves, tried to come back to Thorbabrdin during the Cataclysim, but the Mountain dwarves locked the gate. The hill dwarves tried to fight their way in, and thousands of dwarves dies, when Fistandantilus exploded an entire mountain, in his effort to gain godhood.
KENDER: (my favorite race) Kender are the 'handlers' of Krynn; the children which rarely grow up. Kender look like human teenagers when they reach maturity. They always appear so childlike, due to their happiness, and sense of emotion. Kender are always curious, and will be looking through everything from cupboards, to dungeons. Kender are often accused of stealing, but what they do is handle. (All handlers are kender, but all kenders are not necassarily handlers) What is meant by handling is that in their curiosity they pick something up, and they forget to return it, and they later forget where it came from in the first place.
They stand anywhere from 3'6" to 3'9" but can grow up to 4'4". They can have a wide variety of hair colors from sandy brown, to dark brown. They also have rather light eye colors. Kenders age gracefully with the gray in their hair first appearing at their temples. From laughing so much, they get smile lines and crow's feet, which they consider very elegant, and they even apply mudpacks to dry their skin, and get more wrinkles.
Kender are known for their taunts, and creative insults which can drive the most calm person into a murderous rage. Their voices turn high-pitched when they taunt, or are in throes of extreme emotion, and they get more scratchy with age.
All kender (except for the afflicted ones, but that is a different thing and comes later on) are fearless, and welcome danger as fun. The only fear they know, is fear for the life of friends, or loved ones. Kenders are very independant, and don't like to be ordered around. Their independance first shows, when they are between 17-25 when they get Wanderlust, and feel the need to explore the world.
Kenders are very caring, and they make friends for life, and any putdowns from a friend hurts them deeply, although they are quick to forgive and forget.
Several Krynnish scholars are saying that kender descended from gnomes, from the all-powerful magic of the greygem. The first know kender hero was Balif who traveled with Silvanos the elven hero. He started the Balifor kender settlement. Another kender area is the island of Hylo.
GNOMES: Gnomes are the inventors of Krynn. They were originally hired by Reorx to take the Greygem down from one of the moons. They did this by inventing a huge ladder. Gnomes are always tinkering and have invented many wonderous inventions, and even a few that work occasionally.
They live in Mount Nevermind (which derived it's name when a gnome was saying it's original name to a Knight of Solamnia, and was already on the second hour, when the knight just said "Nevermind") Nevermind is filled with gnomes, and tons of inventions and commitees. (Gnomes love to have a committee for everything and anything including a committee for creating committees!) There are thirty-something floors and gnomes get from one floor to another by catapults called Gnomeflingers.
In appearance gnome look alot like dwarves, except with a slighter build, and much thinner. And not all gnomes have beards, although some like them.
When gnomes talk they do not have spaces between their words. They never intend to finish a sentence, and only do when suprised, startled, or if they come up with a new invention. When gnomes name anything they have the entire history inside the name. Each gnome has three names. A gnome's true name recounts the gnome's entire family tree, extending back to creation. This history occupies a single, enormous word that can easily fill a large book. The complete names of every gnome born on Sancrist appear in a volume in the Genealogy Guild in the main library at Mount Nevermind. Though each gnome knows his complete name (or at least the first few thousand syllables), most gnomes use a shortened form of address that takes merely half a minute to recite. This shorter name lists the highlights of the gnome's ancestor's lives. Humans use even shorter names: the first one or two syllables of a particular gnome's name. Gnomes find this abbreviated name undignified, but endure it all the same.
Each gnome has a life-quest which is something it must study, invent, or discover before he can rest in peace with his antcestors.
The IRDA: Irda were the first people on Krynn, originally they were Ogres a creation of evil in the image of Takhisis, beautiful, and extremely powerful. As some turned to great evil and relished in it, they also turned ugly which is how we see the common Ogre now. (which are 9' tall and are covered in warty skin, and resemble gorrilas slightly) Irda, turned towards a path of good. Because, of their relationship with the Ogres, people on Krynn distrusted them, and the Irda basically shut themselves away from all else. They follow completely the path of good. During the Chaos War, all of the Irda living on their island were destroyed, so there is a chance that there are no more Irda left in the world.
Their skin is midnight blue to deep sea-green, and their hair is often black, or very dark. They stand around 6' tall and are very gracefull and delicate. When they walk people are mesmorized as if they were doing a silent dance, and when the Irda sing people start to weep in joy and saddness.
Irda prefer to stay away from the other races, thinking that they are being overtaken with their emotions. They travel among humans, and elves, wearing their magical disguises.
Irda are very powerful magicians, and they are a bit to sure of their might, which is what caused their down-fall when they broke the grey-gem, thinking they could trap their power.
THE MINOTAUR: Created by the vulture god, Sargonnas, these guys stand an astonishing 7' tall, with a humanoid chest and legs, but bovine hooves, and a head, with powerful and majestic horns. Their horns are around 23" long, and the pride of the minotaurs. They oil and polish them daily, and consider them like a visible part of their honor. A minotaur who looses his honor looses his horns, and no minotaur will treat him like an equal again. The minotaurs are covered entirely in short hair which can be any matter of a straight bovine color. (yellowish, brownish, blackish tints) A minotaur only gets mottled when he reaches a 110. Most minotaurs live around to a 150.
Minotaurs value their honor above all else, and nothing can change that. Minotaurs believe that all problems can be solved by strength, might, and power. If a minotaur is convicted, then he must fight in their arenas, and if he survives, then he is considered innocent.
Their history goes like this: They were originally a bunch of high Ogres living in Taladas, when the GreyGem passed over them in the night and they were transformed to their present forms. They built ships and sailed for Anansalon, which during the journey they lost a quarter of their number. When they arrived they started building a settlement, but were enslaved by the KalThax dwarves. For centuries, the minotaurs endured this brutal captivity. The minotaur hero Ambeoutin began to circulate among his people in secret, mustering them to revolt. With the aid of a wizard and an artifact from the Ogre Wars, Ambeoutin led his people in a revolt that every last dwarf in KalThax died at the hands of their slaves. No word of the utter destruction of the dwarven civilization escaped until long after the minotaurs had returned to the coast. When dwarven explorers came searching for the ancient and abandoned city of Kal-Thax, they could not even find the gates, for ivy had engulfed them. Beyond the gates lay only charred ruins, dwarven skeletons, and looted homes. Once back on the coast, the minotaurs established a kingdom of raiders and farmers. be settle in the arena.
